Sri Lanka (Ceylon)

Sri Lanka is an island of contrasts because it contains such a variety of cultural experiences and natural wonders in such a small area. The romantics probably best summed it up when the called it "The Teardrop of India". The islands shape is that of a tear drop and the conflict between the beauty of the land and the "Tamal Tigers" rebel band have disrupted the soothing state of serendipity that one gets while traveling around the country.

The beautiful mountain scenery and spectacular waterfalls can be seen throughout the countryside near the city of Kandy.

The mountain sides are covered with tea plantations with women sprinkled along the slopes in colorful costumes picking tealeaves.

The Gal Vihara at Polonaruwa contains three carving of Buddha from the rock outcrop.
