In
order to view Chinese Pinyin with correct tone marks, you will need to download
Professor Chin-Chuan Cheng’s Pinyin Fonts from: http://www.lll.uiuc.edu/chinesereading/tools/
. Please follow the instructions step-by-step.
1.
Visit
Professor Cheng’s site and download the zipped file “cpinyin.zip.” Save the file on your desktop first.
2.
If
you don’t have a “Unzip” software, you may download it from http://computingcentral.msn.com/topics/multimedia/downtutor.asp. It is free! Please also save it on your desktop.
3.
Click
on the icon to install “CAM UnZip.”

4.
Unzip
the file by dragging the zipped “cpinyin.zip” to “CAM UnZip.”
5.
A
window will pop up. Please select “Extract.”

Another
window will pop up. “Cpinyin” is now
unzipped. Select “Hide” to close the
window.

7.
Now
you have a folder contains two files: cpinyin.ttf (lower case) and cpinyinc.ttf
(uppercase).

Open
your computer’s “Control Panel” and locate the folder for “fonts.”
9.
Now,
you may drag the two files to the folder contains all the other fonts.
10. Close the window and go to
Microsoft Word.
11. Please pull down the menu
for fonts to locate “Chinese Pinyin.”
12. Follow Professor Cheng’s
keyboard instruction to type Pinyin with tone marks.
