1. Shakespeare Returns to HKIS!
This week, Nov. 29, 30, and Dec. 1, the Drama Dept. presents Shakespeare's "The Comedy of Errors". Our production is set in the Wild West of Ephesus, Texas, 1868, and recounts the errors of mistaken identities when two sets of twins arrive in town on the same day. Complete with slapstick humor, the play is suitable for all ages.
All performances are at 7:30 p.m. in the high school Performing Arts Center.
2. Save the Earth’s Environment
This year the SEE club’s main project is to help fund the Mai Po Nature Reserve wetlands in Yuen Long. These wetlands are an important stop over for migrating birds to rest and feed, with an estimated twenty to thirty thousand birds visiting the Mai Po marshes each year. Mai Po is also one of the few remaining traditional shrimp production sites, with 24 ponds (gei wai) currently being used. However, when typhoons strike Hong Kong, various facilities in Mai Po get damaged. Therefore, the funds raised through SEE this year will go towards protecting, restoring, and repairing these valuable wetlands.
In order to build more social awareness, SEE will organize a tour to the Mai Po marshes on Saturday February 2, 2002. Given the popularity of bookings and limited times, the club has to confirm our reservations by Thursday, November 29. We have bookings for approximately 40 participants to take part in this three hour adventure from 9:00am until 12:00 noon. The entrance fee will be $70 dollars. Transportation to the wetlands would also be organized. The trip will not only enable us to enjoy and view hundreds of species of birds and other kinds of animals, it will also give us a better understanding of the need to protect areas such as these for future generations. If you are interested, please contact Mr. Brown (email: dbrown@hkis.edu.hk phone #: 28121534) or Jackson Chow (email: jackchow@netvigator.com: phone #: 28697233).
3. HKIS INTERACT service club desperately needs the help of the community to donate 600 new toys for the Spastic Association of Hong Kong. We would be most appreciative if you could contribute the new toys for their Christmas party. Please be sure to check the description below of the kinds of toys they are asking for. Please drop the items off in the high school administration office or you may contact Ms. Talbot in the Humanities department office no. 3149-7789 or home no. 2813-7243,or ztalbot@hkis.edu.hk. Interact had another successful variety show on 16th November, Friday. There were more than 25 different performances. The goal of this activity was for students to have fun while performing. The audience was supportive and enthusiastic throughout the 21/2 hour show. We would like to thank all who participated in this event. A special thanks to Natasha Khan, Paul Lee, and all the Interact officers for making this event a success. The proceeds of $4,500 will go towards charity.
