The philosophy of the program is that any student, regardless of their sporting experience or ability is invited to participate in these predominantly non-competitive leagues.

The aim is to promote the development of not only sports based skills, but also valuable life skills such as teamwork, cooperation and fair play.  Guided learning within a safe and comfortable environment is the essence of all our programs.

League Structure

  • Skills Day will be held the first one or two weeks to select teams that are as even as possible.
  • Uniforms will be handed out to all players once teams are confirmed.
  • Week 3 onwards teams will play each other in a league format.
  • Jamboree: The League Program will end with a Jamboree / End of Season Celebration, which will include food and drinks. Team coaches will present participants with medals and a team photo, supplied as part of the program

Are you interested in coaching a team?

The recreational League relies on parent coaches.  If you are interested and have the  time to commit to being a coach, please ensure that you 'check' the coach box when completing your child's registration form.  The Junior Athletics Office will offer as much or as little support as you need.

 Development Soccer

There are many options for Development Soccer programs at HKIS depending upon your age and ability.  For pre-school aged children we run Tinytots.  For R1 and R2 students there is the R1 Saturday Soccer Clinic and Kickstart Mini Soccer.  For Grades 1 through 5 you can register with Soccer Central. Please see more details on each program below.

TINYTOTS (PRE-SCHOOL)

Tinytots Soccer is a well structured, educational and fun play program, promoting lifelong positive attitudes towards physical activity.

Our 18 month to 5 years old Tinytots Soccer program is particularly unique as it combines the teaching of educational, physical and social skills in order to foster positive attitudes from a very young age.

In an era where academic education has taken precedence over physical activity, linking the two together allows for learning in sports classes to take place in a positive environment.

 SOCCER CENTRAL (G1-3)

At Soccer Central we believe that at a young age, children should be encouraged to express themselves freely on a soccer pitch without the fear of losing or the pressure to win.  In orde

r to do this we firmly believe that they need to be taught the basic fundamentals of the game - ball control; passing, dribbling etc. and to learn to play for pure enjoyment and love of the game.

The sessions will also include Speed, Agility and Quickness (SAQ) drills to improve coordination, balance, flexibility and fitness.  Along with Small Sided Games (SSGs), this course will enable the children to learn the essentials of the 'beautiful game' in a friendly and fun atmosphere.

The course is open to all boys and girls in Grades 1 to 3 and no matter what the level of ability or experience your child will be given every opportunity to succeed.

Further Progression

Soccer Central is linked to Tai Tam Tigers Select Football teams and the SC Dragons teams.  Therefore any players that show the right attributes may be given the opportunity to trial for the appropriate age teams in either of these programs.

Additional information about try-outs and try-out registration forms can be found on the Junior Athletics Soccer Section of the website (http://dragonnet.hkis.edu.hk) and in the Junior Athletics Office at the HKIS High School campus. Please note all students must register before attending the try-outs. Download Regsitration Forms HERE. (Under 8's click HERE)

Team Structure

The program consists of seven squads (Under 8s to Under 14s) divided by birth year.  Each team competes in the HKJFL and HKCFA with the U10, U12 and U14 also competing in the HKDLA. Each squad has its own dedicated professional coach. The Under 8’s, 9’s and 10’s play 6 or 7-a-side on smaller pitches while the U11’s and U12’s play 7 or 8-a-side on half pitches. The U13’s and U14’s play mainly 11-a-side on full pitches.

Player Selection

Prospective players are required to participate in try-outs. Under the guidance of the Tigers' Head Coach, each team coach will evaluate and select players based on their skill level, potential, athletic ability and overall attitude.

Practice and Match Schedule

Players must be able to commit to attending at least one practice per week and to participating in tournaments/matches.

Under 8s practices will be held at Tai Tam field on Sunday afternoons from 4:30pm to 6:00pm, with occasional Saturday Tournaments around Hong Kong. Additional U8’s training is now also available on Monday afternoons from 4:00pm to 5:30pm in Repulse Bay (separate forms will be provided)

Under 9s through to Under 13s - Compulsory practices are held on Wednesdays at Tai Tam field from 4:45pm to 6:30pm, while HKJFL, HKCFA Tournaments and their friendly matches are played on Saturday mornings at various venues around Hong Kong. HKDLA matches for U10, U12’s and U14’s will be held on Saturday afternoons/evenings. Additional practices are now also highly recommended. For more information see Additional Training below;

Under 14s - Training will take place on Monday evenings at Tai Tam field from 6:30pm to 8:00pm with HKIS International School Sports League (ISSFHK) games after school during the first half of the season.  The U14s will also compete in the HKJFL on Saturday mornings and in the HKDLA on Saturday afternoons in the first half of the season before the team becomes the HKIS C Grade team in the Hong Kong School Sports League (HKSSF) in the second half of the season.

The club also usually participates in one weekend overseas Tournament per year and the teams also visit Macau and Shenzhen on day trips once in the season.

Additional Training

Players are highly recommended to attend these additional training sessions throughout the season.  Monday Night Football is available for U11, U12 and U13 players.  The sessions take place at the Tai Tam field from 6:30pm to 8:00pm.  The Thursday Tigers (U9 & U10) training sessions take place at HKIS Lower Primary Gym and Upper Primary Gym from 4:00pm to 5:30pm. The new U8’s additional sessions will take place at Repulse Bay Lower Primary Gym on Mondays from 4:00pm to 5:30pm. The club is increasingly offering places conditional on players committing to these additional training sessions and so in many cases these extra sessions will also be compulsory.
